The course focuses on the productivity impact of the design of the office workplace environment, with a focus on the effects of ergonomic products, programs and indoor environmental conditions. The course starts by describing the brief history of productivity metrics and the range of measures that can be used to guage these, including the recent developments of the work stream analysis method for analyzing the productivity of computer users. It describes the conceptual relationship between work-related musculoskeletal disorders that arise from poor ergonomic design and productivity. This section will clarify the concept of productivity as an operational metric that can be objectively and/or subjectively measured for office workers and establish the importance of productivity measures in helping to make the business case for better design…
