Abstract: The wall-free office design provides the opportunity for face-to-face communication and information sharing. Information is given from a survey of two research and development sites in the U.S. pharmaceutical industry. The design factors of visibility for people in open cubicles, the density of workstation arrangements which increases team communication, and the effect of oases or informal meeting places are mentioned.
